I’ve been decluttering my house the last few months, and it’s been amazing. It feels so good, and it is a great deal easier to pick up. (Easy but still a drag, don’t get me wrong). But never the less, it has been awesome!
I had been listening to “The Happiness Project” implementing what I could to create a thriving and loving home. There were some really tough conversations that we will talk about later, but today, I wanted to share the weight lifted from my mental declutter.
I made the decision to eliminate social media from my world. Facebook, Instagram, and even LinkedIn were sucking my time and energy. I made the announcement and Poof! The Uninstall button was selected from my phone, and as I took a breath in, I let it go. It will take a ridiculous amount of load work to stay in touch, but it must be done. Thinking like Mando…”It is the way.” It is what will help in my mental declutter that I know has been weighing me down.
Another “social media” like time and mental time suck is Amazon. Oh man! It is addictive with the same dopamine highs and lows that HAD TO GO!
Not only was I spending crazy amounts of time scrolling, but I also wasn’t tracking the $$ being spent. If I’m honest, I think the Amazon roller coaster was worse than facebook. The emotional urge to buy what I didn’t need or love and the depressive lows when i wanted to buy but couldn’t afford…wowza! Oh, and you know my lack of savings shows it. Cue “Rollercoaster of love”…oh, oh, oh!
So there you have it! I have isolated my social life and my debit card to the old ways of life. The temptations will be strong, and it will be hard, but I know I can do hard things! Right!?!
Right!
What are you going to declutter from your space?
